Villa boss O’Neill parts company with Midlands outfit

Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill has parted company with the club just five days before the commencement of the new season of the English Premier League. No reason has been given for O’Neill’s departure, but Villa have appointed reserve team manager Kevin MacDonald as their new caretaker boss.

O’Neill, widely regarded as one of Britain’s best managers, took charge of Villa in 2006. He has guided the club to three consecutive top six finishes and has turned them into an outfit capable of challenging for regular European football.

O’Neill was widely rumoured to take over from Rafa Benitez at Liverpool, a position that eventually went to Roy Hodgson.

Villa’s Premier League campaign kicks off this weekend against West Ham.
