Aston Villa have announced via their official website that they are negotiating with Blackburn Rovers about a transfer of defender Stephen Warnock.

Blackburn already has a possible replacement for Warnock; Tottenham agreed to a £ 2 million fee for Pascal Chimbonda.

There were many rumors about a transfer of the former Liverpool player. Especially when his manager at Blackburn, Sam Allardyce, decided to leave his player out of the squad for the last Premier League match against Sunderland. `Big Sam` admitted that Warnock wasn’t in the right state of mind to play.

Besides Warnock, Portsmouth’s Sylvain Distin and Manchester City’s Richard Dunne were linked with Martin O’Neill’s team but Villa only confirmed talks regarding Warnock.

The former Young England international, who played for Blackburn since 2007, won’t be a bargain: speculation has suggested Warnock would cost Aston Villa £ 8 million.
