Spain manager Vicente del Bosque has admitted that star striker David Villa might be rested for the World Cup qualifier with Turkey next Wednesday.

In an interview with Radio Marca, the former Real Madrid boss explained that although Villa ‘guarantees goals’, they were worried about the player’s fitness last Saturday.

“He is an important player to us, but we don’t want to do Valencia [the forward’s club] any harm either.”

On Saturday, the European champions earned a rather fortunate 1-0 win over the Turks, who will want to use Wednesday’s clash in Istanbul to take revenge.
