Talk Sport is today reporting that Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova has insisted that his striker David Villa will not be going anywhere in the January, or summer transfer window.
There had been reports that Spain’s all-time leading scorer was on his way out of the Nou Camp as he was not starting as many games as he would like, but Vilanova has said that will not be the case.
A number of English Premier League clubs seemed keen on the forward, most notably Arsenal and Liverpool, but they might have to look elsewhere for a goal-scorer.
The 31-year-old still has a lot to offer the game and it is easy to see why Barcelona don’t want to let him go as he is still one of the most lethal finishers around.
He can still play a big part in the La Liga season and after netting a brace in the Copa del Rey last week, he showed Vilanova what he is still capable of.
If however, he doesn’t play between now and the summer, a move could then be possible for Villa, but the Barca boss doesn’t see that being the case.
He simply said: “David is not going to leave. We are very happy with him.”
It is certainly something to keep an eye on.
