Aston Villa have completed the signing of Carlos Sanchez from Elche, according to the Express.
The defensive midfielder, known as ‘the Rock’ made thirty appearances in La Liga last season for the Valencian side, whose top flight safety was only secured on the final day of the campaign.
Prior to his move to Spain, the 28 year old spent six seasons in Ligue 1 with Valenciennes while he has also turned out for River Plate Montevideo, and began his career with fellow Uruguayan side Danubio.
He has been capped forty-three times for his country, with four of those appearances coming at this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
Sanchez is the fifth new arrival at Villa Park this summer, following the arrivals of defenders Philippe Senderos and Aly Cissokho and midfielders Joe Cole and Kieran Richardson, and all five could make their debuts as Paul Lambert’s side travel to Stoke City in their season opener tomorrow afternoon.
