Barcelona striker David Villa expects his side to see off Real Madrid in the crucial Clasico on December 10.
Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Getafe has put Barca six points behind Los Blancos, who defeated Atletico Madrid 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier in the day, at the La Liga summit.
After the match, Barca goalkeeper Victor Valdes admitted that the Catalans were now a ‘considerable’ distance off the pace, but Villa trusts his side to narrow the gap when they travel to the Santiago Bernabeu.
“This is not over, soon we will have a match against them (Madrid) and we can beat them calmly and that is what we have to think about,” the striker told Barca TV.
“It is a shame that we are now this far from the leader.”
Questioned about the defeat to Getafe, the 29-year-old said that the defensive approach of Luis Garcia Plaza’s men made things harder for Barca and called on his side to improve in their next match.
“Getafe closed down very well, just like every team has been doing, we had good chances but their keeper played very well,” Villa said.
“They scored a goal from a corner and things became much harder then. I am not one to make excuses, but we could not score and the whole Getafe team was at the back.”
“We have to go match by match, win against Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday and go step by step.”
