Handed the chance to climb back into the top-four, a resurgent Villareal will make the trip to relegation scrappers Eibar on Thursday evening.

Starting with the hosts, putting in yet another worrying display and handed a 2-0 loss away at Real Valladolid over the weekend, Eibar find themselves in the midst of a continued rut. With only their goal difference keeping them out of the drop zone, José Luis Mendilibar’s men have now suffered back-to-back La Liga defeats and failed to record a single victory across any format in October. With many around the Estadio Municipal de Ipurúa fearing their side could be at the heart of a relegation scrap come next summer, a huge part of Eibar’s continued issues has come down to some toothless displays. Eibar have now gone over 300 minutes without finding the net and Thursday could prove to be yet another tough test.

As for the visitors, picking up a commanding 4-1 win over Alavés on Saturday, it has been a stellar start to the new season for Villareal. Despite only just managing to retain their La Liga status last year, the Yellow Submarine have shown some much-needed improvements. Winning three of their last four and handed the chance to leapfrog the likes of Real Madrid on Thursday, one man to watch out for will be the red-hot, Karl Toko Ekambi. Bagging a brace against Alaves last time out, the 27-year-old has now recorded five goals in just his last four appearances and he also grabbed the winner against Espanyol in Villareal’s last matchup on the road.
