Villarreal confirm Napoli interest in Rossi; Marseille star rejects Arsenal link

Villarreal confirm Napoli interest in Rossi

Serie A side Napoli have shown interest in Italian striker Giuseppe Rossi, according to Villarreal president Fernando Roig.

The Italian was heavily tipped to leave El Madrigal in the summer, but he eventually stayed at the club as Santi Cazorla was sold to balance the books.

However, the 24-year-old remains one of the most sought-after players in Europe, with Juventus and Napoli leading the race for his signature.

Villarreal president Fernando Roid has now confirmed that Napoli are interested in Rossi.

“Giuseppe Rossi will keep playing for Villarreal,” Roig told Mediaset.

“Napoli president De Laurentiis is interested, but we haven’t reached any agreement.”

The Italian forward is currently sidelined with a knee ligament injury and he is unlikely to return into action this season.

Marseille star rejects Arsenal link

Marseille defender Nicolas N’Koulou is not interested in leaving Marseille, his representative has revealed.

The 21-year-old defender only joined Marseille from Monaco in the summer, but he has already attracted attention from big European clubs.

The Cameroon international is reportedly a target for Arsenal, but his agent is adamant N’Koulou will not be leaving in January.

“Nicolas is fine at Marseille at the moment. He is keen to experience a lot of success at Marseille,” agent Maxime Nana told L’Equipe.

“As long as he has the trust of the coach and the club, there is no reason to look elsewhere.”

N’Koulou is considered an important part of the first team set up at Velodrome, having started 12 of 16 league games this season.

Hamsik’s agent hints at contract renewal

The agent of Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik has poured cold water on rumours that his client is set to leave San Paolo.

The creative midfielder has been linked with a number of high-profile clubs, including Manchester United, Manchester City and Inter.

However, the player’s agent has now revealed that Hamsik is close to signing a new deal at San Paolo.

“The possibility that Marek will continue his career in the Azzurri jersey is very real,” representative Juraj Venglos told Radio CRC.

“The desire of my client is to carry on with his adventure at Napoli and he’ll soon put pen to paper on a contract extension.”

The Slovakian midfielder currently has a contract until June 2015, but he is expected to be handed an improved deal that will not expire before June 2016.
