Villarreal centre-back Gabriel Paulista admits that he is fully aware of Arsenal’s interest in his services.
Some ten days ago L’Equipe suggested that the Gunners were considering a move for the Brazilian footballer, and it appears they are ready to step up their interest.
The player himself has all but confirmed that Arsenal are keen, albeit stating that he wouldn’t mind staying at Villarreal for the foreseeable future.
“I’m calm with regards to my future. My head is at Villarreal, but my agent is working,” Paulista was quoted as saying in Marca.
“I will be relaxed regardless whether I go to Arsenal or stay. We shall see.”
Arsene Wenger recently confirmed his plans to recruit a new central defender and it remains to be seen whether the Gunners will submit an official proposal for the Brazilian in the coming days.
Villarreal are reportedly interested in forward Joel Campbell, but they would prefer a cash deal for Paulista rather than a swap.
The 24-year-old only joined the Yellow Submarine a year and a half ago from Vitoria, but he quickly adapted to life in Spain, going on to feature in 37 La Liga matches.
