According to reports in Spain, Villarreal are considering a January swoop for Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The 27-year-old striker has been on incredible form this season, with 26 goal involvements (21 goals, five assists) in just 18 Championship matches for his club. At rate he’s going, he is set to break the goal record for a single campaign in the English second tier by the end of January.
Mitrovic is also Serbia’s all-time leading scorer with 44 strikes, and his contribution to their cause has become set in stone following his late winner against Portugal this month which secured his country a place at the World Cup in Qatar next year.
Villarreal are apparently prepared to pay €16 million for his services this winter, but it remains to be seen if Fulham will be open to a deal half way through the season at all, given that they’re hoping to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League. Mitrovic is under contract until 2026, having only signed his latest extension in August, which puts the Cottagers in a very strong position in this matter.
