Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna will be out of action for up to three weeks after suffering a recurrence of a muscle injury during Spain’s 3-0 World Cup win over Estonia on Wednesday, the club said Friday.
The Brazilian-born Spanish international left the pitch during Villarreal’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna in their opening match of the season on August 30 because of the injury in his left leg.
The 33-year-old was left out of Spain’s 5-0 win over Belgium in a World Cup qualifier on September 5, but played the entire 90 minutes of the match against Estonia.
“This is the worst news which we could get. It’s a problem because during the next 22 days we are going to have seven matches and we need all out players to be at 100 percent fitness,” said Villarreal coach Ernesto Valverde.
Villarreal host Real Mallorca on Sunday.
