Vinicius Junior said it was “a dream come true” after crowning a memorable 2024 with Intercontinental Cup glory.

The Brazil forward was on target as Real Madrid overcame Pachuca 3-0 in Doha, just 24 hours after he was crowned the FIFA Best Men’s Player of the Year.

Vinicius has now been involved in 13 goals in his 12 finals with Madrid (eight goals, five assists), having been involved in at least one goal in each of the last six (11 – seven goals, four assists).

It was the perfect ending to a decorated year for the 24-year-old, who won the Golden Ball award for the final, having also played a starring role in Los Blancos’ LaLiga and Champions League victories.

“I’m very happy with the match – along with yesterday, which was very special,” he told Telecinco. “We always want to be at our best. Last year, I was able to win a lot of titles. Winning with this jersey is very special.”

“It’s something very special. It’s not something mine, but everyone’s. The coach who gives me freedom, from the president who has trusted me. Hopefully, I can continue here and win many titles. It’s a dream come true.”

Meanwhile, Lucas Vazquez paid tribute to his team-mate following his triumph at the FIFA Best Awards.

“Very happy for him,” the winger told RMTV. “[It is] more than deserved; the best player in the world. He deserves everything.

“In the first minutes [against Pachuca], it was a bit difficult, the pace of the ball was not adequate. Then came the chances; 1-0 and the game was decided. The result is more than deserved.”
