Feyenoord defender Ron Vlaar is sidelined for another six months as result of a knee injury suffered on Wednesday.
Vlaar had just returned from a cruciate ligament injury that cost him most of last season, when hurting his other knee in training this week.
An exploratory operation on Friday pointed out that this time, the 23-year-old damaged the cruciate ligaments in his left knee.
Vlaar, who hasn’t played a single league match since September last year, joined Feyenoord in 2006 and grew to become one of the team’s most influential players.
He was also captain of the Dutch Under-21 squad that successfully defended their European title last year.
