Dutch defender Ron Vlaar is interested in a big club move, according to the player’s official representative.
The 29-year-old has been mentioned as a target for both Manchester United and Arsenal having entered the final year of his deal at Villa Park.
And while the Villans boss Paul Lambert is trying to persuade Vlaar to sign a contract extension, the defender’s agent has all but confirmed that Aston Villa exit is on the cards.
“It is obvious that for Ron, now is the moment to make a nice big move in his career. Ron is very ambitious,” agent Arnold Osterveer was quoted as saying in Daily Mirror.
“The situation is ideal for Ron right now. You can imagine that we are not in a hurry. I don’t want to react to the rumour that he will move to either Arsenal or Man United, but Ron is very ambitious.”
Meanwhile, Aston Villa chiefs insist they are not interested in selling their prized asset in the January window, meaning he will probably be leaving the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Ron Vlaar largely impressed playing for the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup, putting in some excellent defensive displays as Oranje exceeded expectations to achieve a third-place finish in Brazil.
