Vorm extends Swansea deal

Michel Vorm has signed a new four-year deal with Swansea City, keeping him at the Liberty Stadium until 2016.

The Netherlands international signed for the Swans last summer for a fee of 1.5 million pounds from Eredivisie side FC Utrecht and has gone on to become one of the Premier League’s most consistent goalkeepers, courting praise throughout last season.

In his first season in the Premier League, Vorm started 37 from a possible 38 matches – managing 13 clean sheets as the newly promoted side finished in a very respectable 11th place – and he is delighted to have committed himself to Michael Laudrup’s side.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Vorm said: “I’m delighted. I’m enjoying my time here very much and it is one of the reasons why I’ve signed an extension.

“I can also only see things at Swansea getting better and better. I can see a lot of positive things happening here and I believe the club has a bright future ahead of it.

“The club has signed a lot of its quality players for longer periods, which is a good thing.”

Vorm also paid homage to the Swansea fans, who voted him as their Player of the Season last term, and he says they make every match for club ‘enjoyable’, whether it is at the Liberty Stadium or on the road.

“The Premier League has been all I expected it would be – and better. When you play in front of our fans and witness the support they give you, it’s fantastic,” he said.

“We know how much the club means to them, and I’m not just talking about the Liberty Stadium. They also travel in their thousands to away games.

“It makes every game in a Swans shirt enjoyable.”
