Montenegro’s hopes of scoring an upset over Euro 2012 Group G rivals England were dealt a cruel blow here Tuesday after captain Mirko Vucinic was ruled out through injury.
AS Roma star Vucinic, scorer in Montenegro’s 1-0 victory over Switzerland last Friday, was expected to be the main attacking threat for the visitors, who are bidding to surprise a makeshift English line-up.
However, the talismanic striker was missing from the Montenegro match squad after picking up a late injury.
There were no such surprises in the England line-up, where Rio Ferdinand returned as captain in central defence alongside Joleon Lescott.
Peter Crouch joined Wayne Rooney in attack, while England also fielded a new-look midfield with Ashley Young and Adam Johnson starting on the wings flanking Steven Gerrard and Gareth Barry.
