Hoffenheim have revealed Boris Vukcevic’s condition is no longer life-threatening, after his road accident in September.
The 22-year-old remains in a coma but his situation is now stable, and he has survived the acute phase of recovery.
Coach Markus Babbel continues to monitor his progress, and was understandably delighted to hear of the latest update.
“We’re delighted for Boris and his family about the news,” he said.
“We’d all hoped and prayed he’d make it. We know there’s a long way to go yet, but this news gives us strength and will help us get through what is a difficult time. It will help us focus on our upcoming tasks in the Bundesliga.”
Vukcevic was on his way to training on September 28 when his car crashed into an oncoming lorry.
Forensic tests have since shown the midfielder had insulin-induced low blood-sugar levels at the time of the crash.
