According to a recent report from Sky Germany, David Wagner is in the advanced stages of talks with German club Schalke to become the club’s new manager. The former Huddersfield Town boss is one of three primary candidates that they are considering in this process, alongside Dieter Hecking of Borussia Monchengladbach and one more unknown competitor. Wagner was first approached a few weeks ago but reportedly wasn’t ready to return to the game after leaving the Terriers, but now, things are said to have gotten back on track. Wagner enjoyed some success with Huddersfield during his time in Yorkshire, but his spell ended pretty poorly as he wound up leaving the club. In the last few weeks their relegation back down to the Championship has been confirmed, after Wagner played a big role in getting them promoted in the first place.
Whatever happens, it’ll be interesting to see whether Huddersfield fans wish him well in this new venture.
