Walters set for Burnley exit

Sky Sports understands that Jonathan Walters could be set to leave Burnley this summer.

The Republic of Ireland international moved to Turf Moor last summer but managed just three brief substitute appearances in the league – the last of which coming in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Boxing Day.

Prior to his move to the Lancashire club, he spent seven seasons with Stoke City, where he racked up over two hundred and seventy appearances, scoring sixty-two goals while he has also played for Ipswich Town, Chester City, Wrexham, Hull City and Bolton Wanderers and had loan spells with Crewe Alexandra, Barnsley and Scunthorpe United – having began his career with Blackburn Rovers.

He has been capped fifty-one times for his country, scoring fourteen goals and was part of their squad for the 2016 European Championships in France, and the tournament in Poland and Ukraine four years earlier.

Despite his lack of game time, he has been included the squad for Ireland’s forthcoming friendly fixtures against France and the United States.
