According to a recent report from France Football, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama was offered to French side Marseille prior to the European transfer window being officially closed. It was clear to see that Wanyama’s future was going to lie away from North London, after he was gradually phased out of the first team by players that just seemed to be a bit more in form than the Kenyan.
Alas, Marseille were not believed to be interested in signing Wanyama, which led to the potential deal falling apart.
Spurs didn’t have quite as much joy as they had hoped during the summer transfer window, and while they did manage to bring in a few new faces, there was a lot more they would’ve liked to have achieved prior to the new Premier League season getting underway.
From Pochettino’s perspective, this was probably one deal where he felt like he just couldn’t win.
