Warnock´s wallet at the ready

Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock is set to act on his new-found freedom in the transfer market before the window shuts on August 31.

With Malaysian businessman Tony Fernandes finalising his takeover of the club on Thursday, the purse strings have been loosened at Loftus Road – a necessity after the 4-0 spanking at the hands of Bolton in QPR’s English Premier League return on Saturday.

England internationals Scott Parker and Peter Crouch have already been touted as transfer targets for Warnock, who knows he must move quickly to bolster his squad.

“To have the stability that (vice-chairman) Amit Bhatia and Tony Fernandes brings to us is something that we’ve all been striving for,” said Warnock, who had only been able to add 1.25 million-pound signing DJ Campbell and free transfers Jay Bothroyd and Kieron Dyer to his squad under former owners Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone.

“I’m buzzing myself with the prospect of being able to bring in three, four or five new players before the end of the window. It can only help us.”

“It would’ve been cruel if it had been any later, with the space between now and (August 31) to bring players in. But we’ve got a fighting chance I think if we can bring the right ones in, whether it’s the first target or the second or the third target.”

“There’ll be big names mentioned all over the place. When Peter Crouch was mentioned before it was like cuckoo land to us, not a cat in hell’s chance. You never say ever about anybody but I think we’ve just got to put our targets down, make enquiries discreetly and try and get the players on board.”

Amid all the excitement, Warnock is also preparing for Rangers’ trip to Everton on Saturday: “I think they’re a good club, well run. (Chairman) Bill Kenwright runs it well, they’ve got one of the best managers in the country (David Moyes) and you look at their players …it’s no wonder they don’t need too many players,” he said.

“You’re not going to get many players who’d get in their team so it’s a difficult one for us, but they’re all difficult.”
