Competition: Irish Premier Division
Market: Waterford draw no bet
Odds: 8/13 @ 888sport
With the chance to move within striking distance of the top-three, Waterford will make the trip to the Showgrounds when they meet Sligo Rovers on Tuesday evening.
Starting with the hosts, while back-to-back victories against Derry City and newly-promoted Shelbourne earlier in the month might have given Sligo a much-needed boost, Liam Buckley’s men really came crashing back down to earth over the weekend. Putting in what some around the Showgrounds have billed as a season-worst display, the Reds and Whites were hit with what turned out to be a 3-0 drumming at the hands of fellow scrappers Cork City on the road. Still sat in that relegation play-off spot and with a real reputation for their continued issues at the back, fans around Sligo will also have a real headache over their side’s continued inconsistencies on home soil. Aside from their hard-fought victory against the Premier Division returners a fortnight ago, Tuesday’s hosts have managed to collect just a single point over their other five contests at the Showgrounds.
As for the visitors, while Waterford might have been heartbroken to have thrown away a two-goal lead at defending champions Dundalk over the weekend, the Blues should take away plenty of positives from their trip to Oriel Park. Knowing that three points on Tuesday could see them move on the verge of breaking into the European positions, there is no doubt that the mood in John Sheridan’s camp should be at a high. Appearing to make a string of improvements since the former Notts County boss took charge back in July, Waterford are in the midst of a four-match Premier Division unbeaten run and they should also be boosted by their most recent meeting against the midweek hosts. When the two sides faced off last season, the Blues picked up a routine 2-0 win against Sligo and they should be confident of extending on their unbeaten run this week.
