Looking to bounce back from their Villa Park heartbreak, Watford will make the trip to League One scrappers Tranmere on Thursday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Tranmere may have managed to find a minor bounce in their stunning turnaround at Vicarage Road, Micky Mellon’s men have once again come crashing back down to earth. Hit with a 2-1 defeat against Ipswich on Merseyside over the weekend, Rovers once again find themselves sat in the bottom-three in League One. Without a win over the past month, a huge part of Tranmere’s continued issues this season has come down to some glaring struggles at Prenton Park. Including their defeat against Ipswich on Saturday, Thursday’s hosts have lost their last three straight matches on home soil, including a 2-1 defeat against Leicester’s U21’s earlier in the month.

As for the visitors, after watching Aston Villa snatch an injury-time winner on Tuesday night, Watford simply have their sights set on making a return to winning ways. While the Hornets may have once again slipped back into the Premier League drop zone, Nigel Pearson’s men have made a string of improvements after appointing the one-time Leicester boss. With their Midlands midweek defeat just their first in eight appearances, there is no doubt that the mood in Watford’s camp should be on a high. Given the recent gulf in class between the two sides, we’re backing an away victory for Pearson’s side on Thursday night.
