Premier League newcomers Watford are believed to be on the verge of signing French midfielder Etienne Capoue from Tottenham Hotspur, Watford Observer can reveal.
The Hornets have agreed a £5.7 million fee for the former Toulouse star, meaning the 26-year-old is set to become the club’s record signing.
After struggling for playing time at White Hart Lane, Capoue will relish the opportunity of securing regular first team football at Vicarage Road.
The former France international joined Spurs in an £8 million deal from Toulouse two years ago, but he went on to feature in just 24 Premier League matches.
Capoue is not the only Tottenham footballer on Watford’s radar seeing as the Hornets are also showing interest in Benjamin Stambouli.
The 24-year-old finds himself in a similar situation to that of his compatriot, having started just four Premier League matches since joining from Montpellier last summer.
Watford have so far signed Sebastian Prodl, Giedrius Arlauskis, Jose Holebas and Matej Vydra this summer.
