Watford are set to complete the signing of Ismael Kone from Montreal, according to Fabrizio Romano, for what is expected to be a record sale for the Canadian club.
Kone is a 20-year-old midfielder, standing 6’2” tall, mostly playing in a central role and contributing equally at both ends of the pitch. However, he is perfectly capable of playing deeper as a shield ahead of the back line, or further up behind a striker.
Having joined Montreal in August 2021 as a free agent, Kone made a total of 32 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring four goals and producing five assists. He is now set to sign a long-term contract with Watford, being apparently happy with the project at the Championship club under the Pozzo family.
The Pozzos intend to continue their tradition of signing highly talented players early for both Watford and Udinese, which in the past had them going for players like Bruno Fernandes, Richarlison and Rodrigo de Paul.
