Market: Rooney to be next England captain
Odds: 1/4 @ Coral
After Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal named forward Wayne Rooney as his captain this season, the England international is now being backed to be England’s next skipper following the retirement of Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard.
England manager Roy Hodgson recently revealed that he had chosen who will be his captain for the foreseeable future, but hadn’t told the player in person yet. Goalkeeper Joe Hart, defender Gary Cahill and Rooney were the three favourites for the role, but the Manchester United man, 28, may just edge it as he’s been given more responsibilities by his club.
Coral are giving odds of 1/4 for Wayne Rooney to be named the next England captain this summer, which he could well retain for the rest of his international career.
Past captains of the Three Lions include Frank Lampard, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, David Beckham, Ashley Cole, and now a long-term option has been found in the United forward.
