Wayne Rooney Wants the Captain’s Armband; Arsenal Owner Stan Kroenke Backs Arsene Wenger

Wayne Rooney wants to become captain of Manchester United and England. The United striker just recently expressed his desire to become the full-time captain of club and country to the press.

Rooney is surely next in line to become United’s skipper. For that to happen,  Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra would likely have to leave the club.

There’s no doubt that Rooney has the characteristics to become the Red Devils captain fantastic. He is a firey leader on the pitch that leaves everything on the field week in and week out. Rooney’s work-rate is absolutely superb, especially for a superstar player.

The England international said the following regarding the possibility of him becoming the skipper for United and England in the future:

“I’ve captained both on one-off occasions but obviously to get the two jobs full-time would be a great honour for me.

“When we play away from home, the other team are playing in front of their fans urging them to go forward.

“Then the game becomes a bit open and I think that’s when we are at our best, so that’s why we do so well away from home.”

Kroenke Backs Wenger

According to NDTV, Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke has backed the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger to continue managing the club. In fact, Kroenke praised Wenger’s ability to develop young players and rightfully so.

“Arsene has been really good at developing these guys, people like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere.

“There are some really good players that Arsene thinks can be special.

“Sometimes you go through periods like that.

“Arsene’s our man. As an owner, that’s who we put our confidence in.”

Kroenke went on to say that Arsene Wenger’s future is in his own hands.

“With Arsene, it’s his decision and only he will know that,” Kroenke said.

“He still maintains himself in tremendous physical shape. You have to have stamina and energy.

“Arsene has great energy and that will always be his decision.”

In my opinion, the Gunners cannot find a better manager than Wenger at the moment. His record speaks for itself, surely? Harry Redknapp feels the same way.

“I don’t ever see it happening. I don’t see him going. It’s not a possibility,” Redknapp said.

“He is a top manager. Look at his record. It’s fantastic.

“To go through a season unbeaten – what an achievement. Lots of managers have bad times. They come in and then they never have good times.

“He is having a bit of a dip, but he will come out of that. The season has only just started.

“It certainly wouldn’t help Arsenal (if he was sacked)

“I don’t think it’s ever an issue that they would sack him but he is a top manager and they know they are well off.”

After reading what Redknapp had to say, I find it very hard for anyone to truely believe that the Gunners would be better off without Wenger. Should he stay or should he go?
