Bayer Leverkusen lose their first league match at their temporary Duesseldorf home thanks to a fine display from Mario Gomez, whose two goals put Stuttgart right back in the hunt for the Champions League places.

“We were very aggressive in the opening minutes of the first and second half of the game today because we know that’s how Leverkusen play,” Gomez explained on the club’s official website.

“We were aware of their strengths and knew we’d have to stand up to them. I always enjoy coming back here to Dusseldorf, I scored my first goal for the German national team in this stadium”.
