We were not good enough: McCoist

Rangers manager Ally McCoist says St Mirren fully deserved the point they secured with a 1-1 draw at Ibrox on Saturday.

Rangers went ahead three minutes after the break through a Nikica Jelavic strike, but the Saints equalised in the 95th minute when Steven Thompson scored from a David van Zanten cross.

With Celtic struggling to a 3-3 draw at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock, Rangers blew a chance to move 12 points clear of their rivals, but McCoist said his side were well below par.

“We didn’t deserve to win the game today,” McCoist told the BBC.

“St Mirren played a lot of good football, but from our point of view we were miles off it today.”

“The goal we lost was shocking. With 20 seconds to go, we got something that we could see coming.”

“We have to score when we’re on top and put the game out of reach, but we never did that today.”

“We got the goal and we had chances to add to it. Although we didn’t deserve to win it, we could have won it and that’s the disappointing thing.”
