Wednesday bring in Villa’s Gardner

Sky Sports understands that Championship side Sheffield Wednesday have signed Gary Gardner from Aston Villa on an emergency loan.

The midfielder will join up with Stuart Gray’s side until March, having failed to break into Paul Lambert’s side this season.

He has in fact made just two brief substitute appearances for the Midlands club since Lambert was appointed manager, though he had made twenty first team appearances prior to the Scot’s arrival at Villa Park.

The 21 year old has been capped by England at U21 and U20 levels, and will be hoping that his temporary switch to Hillsborough can kick start his career.

He joins a Wednesday side who sit seventeenth in the second tier, and suffered their first defeat since before Christmas yesterday evening with a 3-0 home loss to Wigan Athletic.

He could make his debut in Saturday afternoon’s FA Cup fifth round clash with Charlton Athletic.
