Burnley boss Sean Dyche has had plenty to smile about this season

Burnley travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, in a game that could have big ramifications in the race for survival.

A win for the Clarets could see them 10 points clear of the drop zone with 10 games to go, while Sunderland risk falling nine points adrift of safety if they come unstuck.

But while Burnley are without a win away from home all season, Sunderland have one of the worst home records in the division and face a Clarets outfit promising a turnaround on their travels given recent performances.

Burnley have come close to ending wait for an away win

Burnley are one of two sides in the Premier League without a win on the road this season, but the Clarets have been improving on their travels in recent games to suggest a turnaround is close. Sean Dyche’s men took the lead against Liverpool and had more shots in the encounter, but lost 2-1 at fulltime last weekend. Eight days prior, Burnley took the lead against Swansea City and were on course for a 2-2 draw until they conceded a late minute goal.

Despite losing both games, the performances from the Burnley players and the impressive amount of goals scored on the road in recent months will give Sunderland something to worry about. Burnley have scored in each of their last six away games in the Premier League, registering a goal in their previous 12 home and away, and should breach a Sunderland defence that has shipped six goals in their last two home games.

Sunderland’s woeful home form could go against them

Sunderland are in poor form ahead of their meeting with Burnley, struggling for results at home as well as on the road. The relegation-threatened Black Cats, currently sitting rock bottom in the Premier League table with only 19 points from 27 games, have lost three on the bounce ahead of the visit of the Clarets.

David Moyes’ side have struggled in their own backyard too, suffering three defeats from their last four games at the Stadium of Light, winning only once at home since December. Sunderland have been porous at the back too, conceding 13 goals from their last five home games and are vulnerable ahead of their weekend clash as a result. Burnley are 15/8 to win against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

Can the Clarets end their barren run on the road to boost survival hopes?
