Striker Danny Welbeck has been ruled out of England’s international friendly against Sweden at Wembley on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old featured as a second-half substitute during England’s 1-0 win over Spain on Saturday, and the Manchester United forward would have been hoping to use the game against Sweden to stake his claim for a Euro 2012 starting spot in place of the suspended Wayne Rooney.
But Welbeck will be unable to do so after heading back to his club with a minor muscle strain. It remains to be seen whether he will feature when United travel to Swansea City in their English Premier League fixture on Saturday.
Welbeck has shone for United since returning from a loan spell at Sunderland in the 2010/11 campaign, netting five goals in 12 appearances in all competitions this season.
