AC Milan talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic has insisted that his future is with the Serie A giants, and that he is focused on finishing the season on a high note with Milan.
At the moment, Milan are just one point behind table toppers Juventus, who are unbeaten through 32 league games (18-14-0), in the Serie A table.
“As I have said many times I’m fine here, I have a contract, I have no other thoughts and I am determined to finish this season well with Milan,” Ibrahimovic told Milan Channel.
“Milan have given me a smile and the desire to play, my future is here. I have no reason to say anything else: I am playing well because I am fine here, on and off the field.
“I will be back in training after Euro 2012 and my vacation.”
Since the 2003-04 season, Ibrahimovic has managed to win the league title in every single season.
In 2003-04, he won the Dutch Eredivisie with Ajax. After tallying his second league title in three seasons with the Dutch giants, the Sweden international moved to Juventus, where he won two consecutive leagues titles that have since been revoked due to the Calciopoli scandal.
Zlatan’s next stop was at Inter Milan, where he won back-to-back-to-back titles with the Nerazzurri from 2006-09.
The in-demand striker made a high profile €46 million move to the Camp Nou on 26 July 2009, inking a lucrative 5-year contract.
However, his time at Barcelona was cut short after just one season. With that said, he hailed yet another league trophy with the Catalans in 2009-10.
The well-traveled Swede was loaned out to AC Milan for the 2010-11 season, with Barca giving Milan the option to sign the striker to a permanent deal for €24 million at the end of the campaign.
After leading Milan to the league title, the Rossoneri exercised their right to sign Ibra to a permanent deal.
Now then, that brings us to this season. Can the Sweden international make it nine league titles in nine seasons?
“We must stay focused and well prepared for each game,” Ibrahimovic said.
“We want to win the league again, we are the defending champions. We are a point behind, but if we concentrate then we can get back in front.
“We could have won the matches against Catania and Fiorentina. The important thing is not to repeat our mistakes and do our best in the upcoming games.”
Juventus’ one point advantage is not much of a lead when considering the number of fixtures they have drawn, 14, this season.
Subsequently, I fancy Milan to win the title yet again.
That being said, it would be extremely harsh if Juventus go unbeaten and fail to win the league. Just imagine the headlines if that were to happen. It’s almost unimaginable, almost.
