Wenger adamant Campbell will stay; Milan join race for Coentrao

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has poured cold water on speculation linking Costa Rican forward Joel Campbell with a January exit.

Quite a few top sides have shown interest in the talented footballer as he was mostly restricted to substitute appearances this season, and the 22-year-old was widely expected to leave in search of first team football.

However, it would appear as though Arsene Wenger believes Campbell still has a future at the Emirates and he has suggested that the Costa Rican is not for sale.

“Campbell will stay at the club,” the French coach told Arsenal’s official website.

Despite impressing while on loan at Olympiakos last season, Campbell has only made three substitute appearances in the Premier League this term.

The Costa Rica star, however, appears ready to fight for his place in the side, although the reality is he has yet to be given a real chance to impress in North London.

Milan join race for Coentrao

Italian giants AC Milan are considering a January move on Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao, Tuttosport can reveal.

The Rossoneri are short of options in full-back positions and they look set to launch a fresh assault on the Portuguese defender.

Milan chiefs obviously hope that former coach Carlo Ancelotti will help make the transfer happen.

With Coentrao playing very little this season, the Rossoneri believe they can sign the 26-year-old on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy.

The Portugal international has fallen behind Marcelo in the pecking order and only featured in three La Liga games this season.

AC Milan host top 3 rivals Napoli next weekend at their San Siro, and the Rossoneri are available at 8/5 to claim maximum points.

Van der Vaart hints at Hamburg stay

Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart admits that he is not thinking about leaving HSV despite the fact that his contract expires at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old was believed to be considering his options following the club’s disappointing start to the season, but it appears he has now changed his mind.

With Hamburg showing a great deal of improvement of late, van der Vaart may be ready to stay beyond the current season.

The experienced midfielder, who is enjoying his new role in central midfield, claims that he wants to continue playing at a high level in order to return to the national team.

“Now that I have played three good games, the question whether I will be extending my contract is back on agenda,” van der Vaart told Kicker. “But my future is not an issue now. ”

Rafael van der Vaart returned for the second spell at Hamburg two and a half years ago and he has since scored 15 goals in 63 Bundesliga outings.

The highly rated footballer last played for the Netherlands in November 2013 and he is hoping to receive a call up from new boss Guus Hiddink.
