Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has denied reports that he is looking to cash in on centre-back Johan Djourou.
The Swiss defender has become a bit-part player at the Emirates after the arrival of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, and he has yet to feature for the Gunners this season.
The player’s representative revealed a couple of months back that his client had offers from Italian Serie A, but the defender, nonetheless, remained in North London.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger now admits that he was the one who prevented Djourou from leaving the club in the summer.
“I didn’t let Djourou leave as I love him as a player, and he loves the club,” the Frenchman was quoted as saying in The Sun.
Johan Djouou joined Arsenal from Etoile Carouge back in 2002 and was handed a first team debut two years later.
The Swiss international has since made 93 Premier League appearances for the Gunners, scoring just one goal.
