The Express understands that Arsene Wenger is keen to retain the services of captain Mikel Arteta, though he has confirmed there has been a break down in contract negotiations.
The Spaniard’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next season and has already been offered a new one-year extension at the club.
However, he has not yet committed himself as he is holding out for a longer deal.
The former Everton man moved to Arsenal in August 2011, and has so far racked up one hundred and thirty-five appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring sixteen goals and he was part of the squad that won the FA Cup last May.
The Gunners currently sit in third place in the Premier League, nine points behind leaders Chelsea, and they will look to close that gap when they host West Ham United on Saturday afternoon, with the home win priced at 2/5.
