Wenger: Nasri sale will strengthen us

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking for a show of solidarity from his players after agreeing to sell Samir Nasri to Manchester City.

It was announced on Tuesday that terms had been agreed between the two clubs for the French midfielder, who has now travelled to Manchester to undergo his medical.

Nasri is the second big name to depart from Emirates Stadium this transfer window, with Cesc Fabregas opting to return home to Barcelona.

Although he admitted he was worried about the effect it would have on his team, the Frenchman wants his players to show their fighting spirit.

“You are always concerned about the consequences it can have on the team,” Wenger said.

“But it can as well have a positive consequence; if you are strong mentally you can increase the solidarity.”

“We’ll have to fight more and that’s what you ideally want from strong mentally players.”

“You cannot think only about one game in a season. The decision had a logic, that is, of course business interest.”

“But what you want is players who are completely committed to the long term to defend our chances.”

Although he has been criticised in some quarters for his dealings, or lack of, in the transfer market, Wenger said he was confident the players he has brought in would be a success.

“I’ve bought some great players as well,” he said. “We have brought in (winger Alex) Chamberlain, you will see that he will be a great player, Gervinho as well, but we want ideally more.”

“My job is to my best for the club and that’s what I’ll do, with complete belief in the team, in the players I have available and that’s the best opportunity to show as well that we are as well good enough to fight for this club.”

The sale of Nasri comes just a day before Arsenal take on Udinese in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier.

They travel to Italy with a 1-0 lead but are hampered by a depleted squad due to injuries and the recent sales.

Wenger, however, has backed the players to show their quality against the side who came fourth in Serie A last season.

And he added that failure to qualify for the Champions League would not be the crisis which many have suggested it would be.

“The match is not critical. It’s for us an opportunity to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League and so it’s a good opportunity,” he said.

    Dear Arsenal Management,

Over the years, we as fans have built some trust and confidence in the team Arsenal but we have come to realize that the current wrangling in the club is not about the players but poor management. Last week, there was a marching order from Arsenal owners for Arsene Wenger to go all out to the transfer market to beef up his team but it only ended up with the loss of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. Wenger is good at identifying good players in the transfer market for more serious minded clubs like Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City and others to buy at the transfer. Why is Wenger always fighting himself when his team is being beaten? Isn’t these actions disgraceful to him and the club in general? Does he watch the video clips at the end of every match to see his unruly behaviours. Both Wenger and players have continued to display high level of indiscipline. Does Wenger expect the infant players in his squad to do any wonder? Wenger’s interest to secure the services of Scott Dann (Birmingham), Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), bench-warming Joe Cole (Liverpool), Defender Samba (Blackburn) and a host of other highly placed players have NOT seen the light of the day. Wenger from all indications is a money making machine for Arsenal as he not is commited to bringing this club to limelight. We are just fans and we will continue to laugh at the failure of Arsenal as a club and Wenger as its Manager.

Why won’t Arsenal go for Papiss Demba Cisse? He is a prolific striker who wants to leave his club. The price tag is only about 15 million euro. Now, I do not mind spending that kind of money on a striker who scored 22 goals last year and is only 26 years old.

You see, Arsenal’s problem is that they want to get quality players for dirt cheap; which is why Wenger will only go after 17, 18 and 19 years old kids.

Honestly, Wenger is out of touch. It is time for him to hang it. He simply does not have it any longer. When it comes to the point at which a coach is content with losing; then he needs to change profession. Wenger is the only coach in the entire world who does not believe in purchasing world classs players. He has not ambitions. He has lost his cohones. This is a sad year for Arsenal Football Club. If they lose at Udenese, Wenger should be gone. He lost Mata while he knew he was selling Nasri. I cannot understand why he did not get Boletti in exchange for Nasri. Porto had two fantastic strikers for sale, but he would not bid for them or for Sneijer. The guy is sick. He is acting like this simply because he knows they will not fire him. The club is more content with banking their money rather than winning trophies. I am really disappointed.

I am sorry, Wenger. Do what you must to bring in some players or else.

Wenger has run out of ideas,so he should keep quiet and watch Arsenal go through their worst season in recent time.
