(GSM) – Arsenal is desperate for a new striker with Robin van Persie sidelined until March but the Gunners won’t make a move for Real Madrid attacker Ruud van Nistelrooy. It was reported that Arsenal was interested in signing the Dutchman but Arsene Wenger denies that Van Nistelrooy will strengthen Arsenal’s offensive line: “It would not be the best of starts, bearing in mind our past relationship,” the Arsenal boss told Sky Sports.
Wenger refers to Van Nistelrooy’s popularity among Arsenal fans following a number of high-profile incidents during games between Arsenal and Manchester United. The French tactician is yet to decide who will become his new striker. “We’re at the beginning of December, if we are in the same situation with injuries in January then I will see. Let’s not dream too much of finding a world class player because that’s what is needed to strengthen our team. And he also need not to be European cup-tied.”
Speculation has linked several players with a move to the Emirates: Edin Dzeko (VfL Wolfsburg), Marouane Chamakh (Bordeaux) and Giampaolo Pazzini (Sampdoria). Chamakh and Dzeko may leave in the summer but the chairmen of Bordeaux and Wolfsburg don’t want to open talks over a transfer in January. A winter transfer does seem likely for Ruud van Nistelrooy. The competition for the striker position at Real Madrid is fierce.
