Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed the club could spend big in January if the right players are available.
Wenger has splashed the cash in recent times, signing the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck, and Mesut Ozil for large transfer fees.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Gunners crucial English Premier League fixture against Liverpool on Sunday, Wenger said: “There were periods when we did not have the money. What I don’t like is to spend money that I do not have.
“Now I have money so there is no problem spending it at all. What I fought against was spending money that would have put the future of the club in danger. If we find the right player, we will do it. Without any doubt.
“There is a huge difference between the perception people have of me and reality. I am not scared to spend money. If you go out with me one night, you will understand that.”
Who should Arsenal sign in January?
LVG: United not in title race
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was frustrated by the Red Devils’ failure to secure all three points against ten-man Aston Villa on Saturday.
After Radamel Falcao drew United level by cancelling out Christian Benteke’s opener, the Reds continued to ask questions of Villa’s defence but no second goal came.
Despite putting in a decent performance, LVG was not delighted by the fact that his side were unable to win their seventh consecutive league match.
“We drop two points [but] we were the better team,” Van Gaal said. “That’s frustrating when you’re better and you don’t win. When you want to be a part of the title race, you have to win these games.
“I think also that we were not so aggressive in first half as we are usual, we kept the ball much better, but we didn’t create so much because we were not looking to the forwards. That’s why I changed [Darren] Fletcher for [Michael] Carrick, because I know he’s more a passer to the forwards.
“But yeah, it was not good enough to catch the victory here. We were not creative enough in the second half. We didn’t give the ball as good in the first half but had more aggression, so that was a plus, I think.
“OK, we have a draw, that’s why I’m a little frustrated. We could have won this game in my opinion, and we didn’t do it and we are responsible for that.”
When asked whether United could still challenge for the Premier League title, LVG added: “”No. You have seen you have to win these matches. We didn’t win. But it is still a long time to go. Chelsea have to go to Stoke. It’s not easy.”
