Wenger states that Song staying put

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists that there is no truth in the rumours linking his midfielder Alex Song with a move to Barcelona, that’s according to the Metro.

It had been suggested that the Catalan club are keen to sign Song, but the Gunners boss says that is far from the truth.

He said: “In Spain the newspapers are not really serious. We’ve had the experience of that. We’ve never had any contact with anybody from Barcelona.”

With three years still left of his current deal, the ball is certainly in Arsenal’s court and it is likely that it would take a huge offer from the La Liga giants to secure his services.

The midfielder a key figure for the London club last season and impressed with his high work rate and ability to pick out that all important final ball.

The 24-year-old did admit that he was happy with life at the Emirates Stadium and has no intention to leave.

Barcelona are apparently preparing a £15 million move for the Cameroon international but this is likely to be rejected by the English Premier League club.

The Gunners will want to keep Song as they look to try and build a side that can make a genuine title challenge.
