Looking to pile even more pressure onto Schalke this weekend, Werder Bremen will welcome the Blues to the Weserstadion on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Werder Bremen might have just about managed to hang onto their Bundesliga status last summer, Die Werderaner have enjoyed a largely impressive run of form on either side of the festive break. With their sights set on trying to find a route into the top-half of the table, Florian Kohfeldt’s side certainly put in an eye-catching display on their travels last weekend. As for the visitors, while Schalke might have managed to grab that shock thumping victory against Hoffenheim earlier in the month, it appears that might have just been a minor bounce for the Bundesliga strugglers. Still sat rock-bottom of the table and already 10 points adrift of safety, the former German giants are really a club in crisis. Eventually hit with a 4-0 drumming against defending champions Bayern Munich last week, Head Coach Christian Gross has seen his side lose each of their last three Bundesliga matchups on the spin. With just a single top-flight win to their name all season and a real reputation for their glaring issues at the back, they have also failed to win any of their last 19 Bundesliga contests on the road continuing on from last season.
