Werder Bremen are closing in on a deal to sign Tahith Chong on loan from Manchester United, according to Sky in Germany.
The 20-year-old forward’s future was quite uncertain until he signed a new contract in March this year, set to keep him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2022. Nonetheless, with a lack of game-time needed to aid his development, United are now willing to sanction a temporary departure. Chong has made only 13 first-team appearances in all competitions in 2019/20, the latest being when he came off the the bench in United’s Europa League triumph over LASK Linz earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Bremen only just escaped relegation from the Bundesliga in the season behind us and are, like many other clubs around the world, in a difficult financial situation. They will therefore try to focus their summer incoming deals on loan moves.
The German side would be paying a majority of Chong’s wages, and they believe he is a player that would fit their team well.
