(GSM) – Werder Bremen have confirmed that star player Mesut Özil could leave the Bundesliga club this summer, as reports claim Barcelona are close to capturing the midfielder.

Reports in the Spanish media have suggested on Tuesday that Barca have already reached an agreement to sign the 21-year-old, who was one of the stars of Germany’s 2010 World Cup campaign.

Özil is already linked with a switch to Manchester United, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson present at Bremen’s recent friendly against Fulham, while Chelsea are another club reportedly interested in the young midfield ace.

Bremen director of sport Klaus Allofs admits Özil could depart the Bundesliga outfit, but says nothing has been decided.

“It is possible that there is now a bit of movement in the issue,” Allofs told the Kreiszeitung Syke newspaper.

“But I am not running backwards and forwards to the fax machine or getting sweaty palms when I check my emails to see if maybe an offer has arrived.”
