Werder Bremen are interested in signing Jannik Vestergaard from Southampton, according to Sky’s branch in Germany.
The defender already played for the Bundesliga side for 18 months, from January 2015 to the summer of 2016, and during that time he made a total of 54 appearances and scored four goals in all competitions for them, before leaving for Borussia Monchengladbach in a €12.5 million deal. Two years later, he arrived to the south coast of England for double that amount. The Saints brought him in to boost their defensive options after selling Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool six months earlier.
Since then, he has played a total of 37 games, 11 of which came this season in the Premier League, as well as his only goal for the club to date.
Werder are short of options in the heart of defence at the moment, with injury to Borussia Dortmund loanee Omer Toprak leaving coach Florian Kohfeldt with only Milos Veljkovic and Marco Friedl at his disposal.
