Werder are hoping to close the deal for Genoa defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, according to Bild.
The German giants are really short on cover at the back and are desperate to sign a centre-back this summer.
They have shown interest in Genoa defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who spent last season on loan at Milan and have agreed personal terms with the player, according to his agent.
“We have agreed the small details with Werder. Now it’s up to the two clubs. This Wednesday we will have clarity,” Nikos Klitsidis told Bild.
The only problem is that Werder are hoping to bring the player on loan with an option to buy and Genoa would rather sell the player immediately, with Napoli also showing interest in the Greece international.
Werder Bremen chief Klaus Allofs admitted that Papastathopoulos would be a good signing for the club.
“He has been performing well in the national team, which made him interesting to us.”
