(GSM) – Werder Bremen has fired Dusko Tosic. The 25-year-old defender was given his marching orders when he refused a loan move to MSV Duisburg.
Werder’s director of sport Klaus Allofs has explained he had no choice but to terminate the contract of Tosic.
“After his renewed misbehaviour in the last few days, we are happy to have now closed this chapter,” said Allofs in a press release.
“We have never before experienced a player behaving like him.”
Tosic initially agreed to join 2.Bundesliga side Duisburg until the end of the season, but then failed to turn up for his presentation.
Instead, he tried to negotiate his own move to an unnamed Premier League club, but when that never materialised, it left him still with a valid contract with Bremen. The full back has made only 22 appearances for Die Grün-Weissen in the last two and a half years.
“The player assured us and his agent that he would go to MSV (Duisburg) on loan,” explained Allofs.
“In the evening, he just did not show up in Duisburg as planned.”
The collapse of the loan did not affect the exchange deal between the two clubs which saw Kevin Schindler join the Zebras and Sandro Wagner move to Bremen.
