Werder Bremen will take a 1-0 lead to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard for the second-leg after a Naldo goal secured victory at home.

“We didn’t show in the game what we are capable of. We sat back too much and kept letting St-Etienne into the game and that wasn’t necessary,” Trainer Thomas Schaaf said after the match.

“With the chances we had we didn’t score enough. Therefore I cannot be happy. The game in France promises to be an exciting one,” he added.
