(GSM) – Two goals from Pontus Wernbloom were enough for Sweden to earn a 2-0 victory over Hungary in their opening European Championships qualifier.
After failing to make it to the World Cup this year, the Scandinavians were highly motivated to get their Euro 2012 campaign going with a win.
AZ Alkmaar midfielder Wernbloom scored the opening goal after 51 minutes at Solna’s Rasundastadion, and Hungary failed to find the right response.
And in the 73rd minute, Wernbloom added his second, heading home from a corner kick.
Sweden’s line-up included new AC Milan signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in his first competitive match after announcing his return to the national team.
