Liverpool have agreed personal terms with RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, according to football operations and communication consultant Ian McGarry.
The 24-year-old striker, who has so far netted 31 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig this season, has been linked with the runaway Premier League leaders for a long time, but the rumours have grown apace since his open flirting with them back in February. Interest from a host of other clubs has been reported too, but it seems Werner has his heart set on Anfield and working with Jurgen Klopp. The Liverpool boss apparently spoke to him personally via online platforms on several occasions, assuring him that his services are wanted on Merseyside.
Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, McGarry said that Liverpool and the Germany international had agreed on a five-year deal, worth around £140,000 per week in wages. However, the two clubs are yet to find common ground when it comes to the transfer fee. Liverpool are still reluctant to pay the €60m release clause in Werner’s current contract which runs until 2023, believing they will be able to negotiate a lower price when the market opens.
