Timo Werner is ready to swap RB Leipzig for Liverpool this summer if his £52 million release clause is triggered, according to Sky Sports.
The striker moved to Leipzig from Stuttgart in 2016 and since then he has netted 88 goals in 150 appearances for his current club. His form this season has been particularly good – 27 strikes in 36 games. Last summer, he extended his contract to 2023 after being close to joining Bayern Munich for €30m, and a release clause of double that amount was inserted in the deal.
The 24-year-old Germany international has been flirting with Liverpool in the last few months. In an interview with Viasport in February, he described their team and their manager as the best in the world, and later added that he sees himself as a good fit for Jurgen Klopp’s attacking unit.
Of course, Liverpool already boast a formidable attacking line, but signing Werner would enable them to change shape and add a note of unpredictability into their game.
